Originally from Portland, Oregon, she holds a BFA in Acting from Southern Oregon University and has improvised her way across the country: eight years spent at Seattle's improv venue, The Market Theatre/Unexpected Productions, two years training in New York at The Upright Citizen's Brigade and performing with independent New York based groups, and the last six years in Chicago, including training programs at the iO and Annoyance Improv Training Centers. She occasionally performs in her duo group McRau (opposite Antoine McKay) at The McKaw Theatre in Chicago and Boston Coppahs, an improvised show about cops in Boston. She has performed her solo show Aren’t We There Yet? for the last two years at the Chicago Women’s Funny Festival. Kristen pairs her extensive performance chops with making opportunities for children to find their own creative voice. She teaches drama and creative writing in Chicago schools with Barrel Of Monkeys, as well as being a teaching artist with Emerald City Theatre and Dream Big Performing Arts Workshop. Additionally, she volunteers with Funny Bones Improv performing in hospitals in the greater Chicago area for children and their families. Before Chicago, Kristen spent two years touring Italy with the children's theatre company, Theatrino, teaching the English language through theatre. Kristen is dedicated to using theatre to foster self-esteem and independence in young children. She currently resides in Edgewater, the heart of Chicago’s Laundromat and Payday Loan District. Kristen Rau is gratified to be a part of Improvised Jane Austen, with whom she has been engrossed with infinitely!
